Welcome to an immersive tour through one of our most impactful projects: the technological rejuvenation of the Mutis Auditorium at the University of Rosario<\/a>, an educational institution with over three centuries of existence and a significant role in Colombia’s history.<\/p>\n

An auditorium is more than a space; it’s a stage for the exchange of ideas, dissemination of knowledge, and generation of academic discussion. When the University decided to modernize its iconic Mutis Auditorium, they knew they needed something exceptional.<\/p>\n

Acoustic Challenges in an Auditorium: How the Shape of the Space Affects Sound Quality<\/h2>\n

Ever been in a conversation where it seems like words simply bounce off the walls, turning into a confusing echo? If so, you already have a basic idea of the acoustic issues we faced in the Mutis Auditorium. Now, imagine that echo distracting hundreds of people during a crucial lecture or academic speech. Not an ideal situation, right?<\/p>\n

The shape of the auditorium presented a unique challenge: it was long and narrow. Think of this like speaking inside a giant tube of toothpaste; the sound has nowhere to go except forward and back. This creates excessive reverberation, somewhat like when you shout into a canyon and hear an echoing return.<\/p>\n

To further complicate things, before the project, the auditorium had multiple speakers distributed throughout the room. While it might seem like more speakers equate to better sound, in this case, they only added to the problem. Imagine having multiple yoga instructors in the same class, all yelling different poses at once; you’d feel more confused than relaxed.<\/p>\n

The Issue of Intelligibility<\/h3>\n

The intelligibility of sound is nothing more than the clarity with which words are heard and understood.
