Lighting for Commercial Spaces: Transforming Showrooms into Magical Stages

Upon crossing the threshold of the Verdi showroom, visitors are immersed in a world where innovation blends with craftsmanship. In this meticulously designed space by DesignLab, light is not merely a functional tool but the primary narrator of a magical story. Every detail, from intricate fabrics to gleaming metals, comes to life and transforms into a tangible masterpiece, all thanks to a luminous symphony that not only enhances but also evokes emotions.

But the magic doesn’t stop there. In this temple of design, automation plays a crucial role. With just the touch of a button, lighting scenes shift, adapting to different moments or events, offering a dynamic and personalized experience. This flexibility in lighting control, combined with advanced systems like the DALI communication protocol and the Crestron Control System, makes each visit unique, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in an ever-evolving environment.

And when it comes to immersion, sound cannot be left behind. The space’s acoustics, optimized with high-quality sound systems like KEF, create an enveloping atmosphere that complements the visual experience. It is a dance of lights and sounds that transports visitors beyond the physical space, into a universe where design, technology, and art intertwine in a cohesive narrative.

Challenging Limitations: Creating Luminous Magic in Industrial Spaces

The transformation of Verdi’s space was undoubtedly a monumental challenge. Imagine for a moment: a warehouse in an industrial zone, a place where trucks roar and workers labor tirelessly. This environment, far from being a blank canvas, came with its own limitations and challenges.

The first challenge was purely architectural. The space, though large, had fixed structures that could not be modified. Concrete walls, steel beams, and a high ceiling presented obstacles not only for installing lighting systems but also for creating a cozy, immersive atmosphere.

However, these structural challenges became opportunities for DesignLab. Every column, every corner, every space became a potential stage where light could play and dance. The team asked themselves: How can we use these elements to our advantage? How can we make light flow harmoniously, overcoming physical barriers?

The next challenge was psychological. The idea was to transform visitors’ perceptions from the moment they walked through the door. The outside noise had to disappear, giving way to a tranquil and aesthetic universe. The transition had to be smooth yet impactful, transporting visitors from a concrete industrial zone to an oasis of design and luxury.

Added to this was the need for flexibility. The design had to allow for space reconfiguration according to the exhibition needs. This meant that the lighting had to be not only aesthetic but also functional, offering different “lighting personalities” that could adapt and evolve with the day and each event.

The challenge wasn’t just about installing lights in a space. It was about creating an experience, a luminous narrative that could tell Verdi’s story, highlight the beauty of its handcrafted products, and, at the same time, offer an environment that could transform and adapt, overcoming the physical and emotional limitations of the original space. It is a testament to DesignLab’s ingenuity and vision, showing how, with the right vision and tools, even the most challenging spaces can become magical stages.

Advanced Technologies: Lighting the Future of Commercial Spaces

Lighting, automation, and sound are the three pillars upon which Verdi’s experience was built. Each of these elements played a crucial role in transforming the space, and their meticulous implementation was key to creating an environment that was not only aesthetically striking but also technologically robust.

Light in Motion: Innovations in Lighting

The choice of luminaires was no accident. They were specifically selected for their efficiency, flexibility, and optical control. For this project, we turned to leading brands in lighting solutions like Targetti and Duralamp. These are the main references used in this project:

Illuminate your project with Us

Every space has a story to tell. Let us help you tell yours with our lighting and automation solutions.

These are the main references used in this project:

  • Zedge Pro Wide: This wall-recessed luminaire offers soft and uniform ambient lighting, ideal for highlighting textures and creating cozy environments.
  • Jupiter Mini: A high-efficiency miniature recessed luminaire, perfect for enhancing specific details and focusing attention on strategic points.
  • Tracks DALI: These tracks provide great flexibility in luminaire placement, facilitating changes and adaptations according to exhibition needs.
  • Keplero Zoom and Zeno DBS: Specialized projectors that can be adjusted to create dramatic effects and accentuate specific areas of the space.

Each luminaire was chosen not only for its lighting capability but also for how it integrated into the overall design and contributed to the space’s general narrative.

Smart Automation: Centralization and DALI Protocol

Automation is the soul that animates every shade of light on the stage. With the DALI communication protocol and the Crestron Control System, it was possible to customize each lighting moment to measure.

Imagine having the ability to change the entire environment with just the touch of a button: from soft, warm lighting for an intimate event to vibrant light shows for a grand celebration. This flexibility not only adds dynamism to the space but also ensures that each visit is a unique experience.

The DALI protocol, or Digital Addressable Lighting Interface, acts as a language between the lights, allowing individualized and centralized management of each lighting point in the system. This means that each luminaire can be controlled independently, but all from a unified control center.

On the other hand, the idea behind centralized lighting is to manage and control all the luminaires from a single point or system, simplifying and enhancing the ability to adapt and personalize the environment.

The Crestron Control System, in turn, is the tool that makes this magic happen, enabling the creation of specific scenes or environments with ease and speed. Together, these components become the invisible architects of the luminous experience at Verdi.

Sound Magic: The Connection Between Space and Sound

A space is not defined only by how it looks, but also by how it feels and sounds. For Verdi, it was essential to create a sound atmosphere that complemented the visual experience. For this project, we used the following KEF references:

  • KEF Ci Series: This line is renowned for its ability to seamlessly integrate into any environment, to the point of being virtually unnoticed. The in-ceiling speakers of the Ci series offer a high-definition sound experience, ensuring that every note and nuance is captured and reproduced with precision. Their discreet design and advanced technology make them a perfect choice for those seeking impactful sound without compromising the space’s aesthetics.
  • KEF LS50 Wireless II: It’s not just a speaker; it’s a revolution in the world of sound. With its ability to stream from any source thanks to its wireless compatibility and its wired connections for more traditional devices, it ensures that every sound source is captured and reproduced with fidelity. Additionally, the LS50 Wireless II stands out for its Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™), which eliminates distortions and delivers a purer, more natural sound. Aesthetically, its modern and functional design complements any environment, making sound and space merge in perfect harmony.

Together, these two KEF lines not only offer a high-quality auditory experience but also integrate masterfully into the design and aesthetics of Verdi’s space, creating an immersive and emotionally resonant sound environment.
